The board held a second reading of Policy Act 89 updates and voted to adopt the changes after brief discussion about several board-specific provisions.
A motion to approve the Act 89 updates was made and seconded; the chair called for discussion and one board member asked the board to review a few board-specific edits in bylaw 0144.5, noting that the district's Neola representative recommended not adopting language that would apply Act 89 to board members because "act 89 does not pertain to board members," the presenter said. The changes described were mostly wording adjustments (for example changing references from 'policy' to 'bylaw' in several places) and the board agreed to omit the board-specific communications language recommended by the representative.
After discussion, the board voted to adopt the Act 89 bylaw updates. The transcript records the motion (moved by Lakey, second by Cara) and a unanimous voice vote; the chair announced the motion carried.
