Commission approves Inland Port tax‑increment trigger for select West Weber parcels

The Weber County Commission voted to approve Resolution 32‑2026 to establish the 2027 tax year as the trigger year for 12 "trigger parcels" inside the West Weber Inland Port project area.
An Inland Port representative told commissioners this is the first trigger for the project area and that tax increment will be reinvested in infrastructure and projects with a nexus to the project area only with county permission. “This is the 1st trigger that we are implementing for the project area... Per our agreement with the county, we will not be deploying any of that tax increment without the county's permission,” the representative said.
Staff said the initial funds will support key infrastructure projects such as wastewater transfer, a railroad crossing to support housing, and other water and road improvements that will also benefit the broader West Weber corridor even though increment is paid exclusively from the port project area. The commission approved the resolution by roll call and staff said the Inland Port Authority will consider final approval in September.
Commissioners emphasized that, per the interlocal agreement, increment generated within Weber County will be used for projects in the county and not transferred elsewhere.
