Marshall County Board members voted on July 16 to ratify a local disaster proclamation and waive zoning application fees for residents affected by recent severe-weather events.
"On May 16th the west side of the County had damage to several places due to wind. One June 11th a tornado hit on the east side of the County with damaging several places in Washburn & Richland Township area that destroyed 9 places, affected 13 & another 13 had minor damage. No injuries or deaths happened," Chairperson Travis McGlasson told the board while introducing the resolution. The board approved resolution #26-21 (moved by Chairperson McGlasson, seconded by Meierkord) with the vote recorded as all ayes, 0 nays and 1 absent.
The approved resolution ratifies and continues the county's proclamation and declares a local disaster for the affected areas; it also waives zoning application fees for five years for residents who sustained storm damage. The waiver is intended to reduce financial barriers for property owners seeking zoning approvals for repairs or rebuilding.
Board members did not set a specific implementation timetable during the meeting; county staff will be responsible for applying the fee waiver to qualifying applicants under the terms of the resolution.
