Tree Board reports five new park trees planted; proposes Monarch Watch registration and volunteer planting

Tree Board reported five trees planted Sept. 25 under an MDNR grant, protective fencing installed, and proposed registering the village butterfly garden with Monarch Watch; volunteers and Garden Club members will assist spring planting.
Nancy Thill, speaking for the Tree Board, reported that five trees — a Black Gum, two Ironwood, a Dogwood and a Sugar Maple — were planted in the park on Sept. 25 by Sawyer Garden as part of MDNR‑funded work. She said protective metal fencing has been placed around the new trees to protect them from deer and that the first part of the MDNR financial report has been completed and submitted.
Thill said roughly 33% of the Garden Club membership volunteered to help with planting, and she described discussions with Beth from Pizzo Gardens about establishing a butterfly garden. Thill proposed registering the village site with Monarch Watch and suggested a future pergola at the park entrance as funding allows. She said herbicide treatment had cleared an area and seeding by traditional broadcast methods is planned for mid‑November.
The Tree Board’s updates were recorded as part of the council’s routine reports and did not require council action during the Oct. 11 meeting.
