Following a closed session, the Village of Michiana Council approved a 9% increase to the total salary budget for the Department of Works and the Village Office.
The council returned to open session at 3:50 p.m. and Tim McCarthy said that, after discussions with the village attorney, the raise aims to address retention and appreciation. McCarthy moved that the 9% increase take effect on the next payroll once each affected employee has met with a council member; Mike Botelho seconded and the motion passed.
Minutes indicate the council will implement the increase for the two departments and that individual meetings with employees are required before payroll changes take effect.
