Residents press board on expired fire contract; longtime resident urges openness and term limits

At the meeting’s public-comment period, a resident who identified himself as John urged the board to resolve an expired fire contract, saying firefighters have been working without a contract since December and that the situation has persisted for about three years. "This used to be settled in October... We are now working without a contract. This is getting out of hand," John said, warning of legal, health and morale consequences. The board said it could not answer for the contract that night but noted the budget included an increase for EMS and fire.
Other commenters included Julie Milner of the Adirondack Community Outreach Center, who thanked town staff for responding to a sand-and-sanding request, and Bob Nessel, a longtime resident who praised some members but urged the board to limit executive sessions, improve transparency, establish term limits and improve sound in the meeting room. "Everything that goes on in this room, by the way, is for the people," Nessel said, urging the board to keep the community informed.
