Engineers: Johnsburg's Well 5 underperforming; supervisor seeks rehab cost and options

Town Supervisor Sterling told the board that engineers conclude the North Creek water system can handle current residential loads and the existing ski lodge but could be strained by substantial residential build‑out. "Well 5 is producing only 65 gallons per minute compared to some of the others that are producing a 145 and a 125 gallons per minute," Sterling said, and described Well 5 as "not fully functional" with a mechanical issue engineers believe they can fix.
Sterling said he wants the engineers to provide two deliverables: a more formal flow study and a cost estimate to restore Well 5 to full capacity. He urged the board to start by rehabilitating Well 5 and simultaneously consider adding storage capacity and, long term, identifying a new source (an additional well). The supervisors and engineers flagged grant opportunities that often provide substantial funding (engineers noted typical grant programs can fund roughly 80 percent of eligible costs with a 20 percent local match). Sterling stressed this is not an emergency now but that the town needs to plan before build‑out pressures increase.
