Resident urges council to pause Columbia Street bond over maintenance worries

Resident Randy Koniowka told the Common Council he is concerned about the Columbia Street design and who will maintain new planted strips once construction is complete: "Who is going to be maintaining the grass, it’s going to be a disaster. The property owners have never had to maintain grass before now they will have to buy a lawnmower."
Mayor Keeler replied that the design was prepared by engineers and that it is intended to green the corridor and calm traffic. Keeler also said the project and the bond "are must do things" and emphasized prior public hearings and notice to adjacent property owners. The Columbia Street bond ordinance authorizing up to $4,000,000 for the improvements was considered later in the meeting and approved by unanimous vote.
