Commission approves demolition contract, tables cemetery rules and several minutes approvals

At its March 3 regular meeting commissioners unanimously approved several minutes, tabled draft cemetery rules until a work session, and approved Southern Heritage Woodworks to perform demolition work (Option 2, $5,500). Motions carried without dissent.
The Unified Government commission unanimously approved minutes from prior meetings and then moved through agenda business on March 3. Commissioner Jason Frost moved and Commissioner Gerald Douglas seconded approval of the Feb. 3 regular meeting minutes; the vote was unanimous. Subsequent minutes (executive session and Feb. 23 work session) were also approved unanimously.
On an action item, the commission approved hiring Southern Heritage Woodworks for demolition Option 2, which included demo of three buildings and site cleanup with containers supplied by the county; the contractor’s option price was listed at $5,500 in the contractor proposal. The contract approval passed by unanimous vote. The commission also voted to table proposed Cemetery Rules & Regulations until a future work session to allow staff and the county attorney to review whether the matter should be an ordinance rather than a resolution.
David Acord of Southern Heritage Woodworks provided written options to the county specifying insurance and worker-compensation requirements and noting that the contractor is not responsible for EPA-identified hazardous materials discovered during demo. Commissioners asked staff to ensure insurance and worker-comp coverage were documented before work begins.
