Board accepts Commission on Disabilities' annual report, proclaims October Disabilities Awareness Month

The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors adopted a proclamation designating October 2025 as Disabilities Awareness Month and accepted the Commission on Disabilities' annual report during its Oct. 7 meeting.
"Our purpose is to advise the board of supervisors on disability‑related issues," Florence Wong, president of the Commission on Disabilities, told the board as she outlined the commission's recent activities, including an art showcase, a new Ready Wheels drop‑off for accessible transit at County Center and efforts on emergency preparedness and accessible transportation. Wong said the commission has 15 members and hosts open monthly meetings geared to improving county accessibility and services.
Supervisor Lisa Gauthier praised the commission's work and the board voted unanimously to accept the report and adopt the proclamation. The commission said it will continue advising on capital projects and accessibility improvements and invited supervisors and residents to upcoming events, including an art‑show reception and workshops this month.
