Kearney High botany students present pollinator-garden plans and digital arboretum

Kearney High School’s botany class presented client-connection projects to the Park & Tree Board on May 20, proposing pollinator gardens and a digital arboretum. Instructor Caitlin Fountain introduced the effort and described students’ work to reach out to park staff, research plant species and prepare cost estimates and educational materials for the community.
Caitlin Fountain summarized the group’s work: “I teach botany at the Kearney High School... we started implementing client connection projects,” and said students researched what monarch butterflies need and what plants to include. A separate student team presented a digital arboretum that digitized the city’s tree binder and produced slides and a website; the team published materials under a student domain and proposed a $10-a-month custom domain fee to maintain the site.
