Board permits modular classrooms at Piedee Elementary, waives foundation landscaping and parking additions

On Nov. 10 the Horry County Zoning Board of Appeals approved requests from Development Resource Group to place an eight-classroom modular building at Piedee Elementary and granted variances to omit foundation landscaping and to waive the requirement for 12 additional parking spaces.
Jessica Wise, representing the developer, said the campus already has substantial parking at the front of the site (she counted about 152 spaces from aerial imagery) and that the modular is needed for student capacity. A neighbor voiced concern that the additional modulars and activity can increase visibility and noise for adjacent homes and asked whether the fence and circulation would be adjusted; Wise said the fence is existing, portals were staged during fall break, and the project would match existing safety practices. The board voted to approve the variances, finding sufficient parking and site circulation for drop-off and events.
