Board approves canopy setback variance for commercial center on Highway 905

Applicant representative (Dr. Van Wey) said the building has been a vacant shell and that the canopies — 42 inches in depth — were installed above doors and windows; the canopies sit 57.6 feet from the front property line where the new right-of-way setback requires 60 feet. A nearby resident who said she lives adjacent to the project told the board the redevelopment made sense and that the design improved the appearance of the property. Staff said parking and sidewalks may exist within the setback and that the 60-foot requirement became effective in January 2022. The board voted to approve the variance with standard staff conditions.
