Mayor honors Moorhead wrestler William Ward with Morehart recognition

Mayor Shelley Carlson presented a Morehart recognition on Aug. 10 to William “Billy” Ward, a 2026 Moorhead High School graduate now wrestling at Arizona State, praising his athletic success and leadership.
Anna Rajesh, a Moorhead High teammate who nominated Ward, told the council: “William Ward is a leader in the Moorhead wrestling community. He always takes time to help others improve.” Rajesh described a specific example when Ward reviewed one of her matches and provided detailed feedback that reduced her stress in future competitions. The nomination packet highlighted Ward’s athletic record, including three state championships and national honors.
Lisa Borgen (introducing the award) and Mayor Carlson commended Ward’s combination of competitive achievement and mentorship. Mayor Carlson said the recognition “shows the type of character he has” and that the community looks forward to following his collegiate career. The council staff will provide a photo and ensure the award is delivered to Ward while he is at Arizona State.
