Parks staff outlines Ponderosa Park rebuild, staff says ~$1 million may fund initial scope

Parks staff briefed the commission on community engagement and funding for rebuilding Ponderosa Park after recent flood-control work. Rebecca Sanger said staff collected neighborhood input and is working with a play-equipment manufacturer interested in a national demonstration partnership.
Sanger corrected an earlier phrasing and stated plainly: "I was corrected. We have actually $500,000 from CDBG." She added that combined with other sources the project team is working with roughly $1,000,000 to scope design, permitting and construction. Staff will return to the neighborhood with three concepts this fall; those concepts will vary tradeoffs among a splash or water feature, permanent restrooms, play equipment and preserving open grass.
Commissioners pressed on accessibility and cost: one commissioner noted recirculating systems and reclaimed-water options for water features and warned that permanent restrooms or a full splash pad could consume most or all of the available budget. Staff said preliminary vendor concepts will be negotiated for cost and sustainability, and staff will present three options back to the community for prioritization.
