Commissioner 14 moved approval “with the appropriate editing of the language,” a motion seconded and passed by unanimous voice vote.
The artist emphasized visibility and scale, saying the design “would be up to 14 feet tall” to provide presence at the visitor center and offered to meet commissioners at the proposed site to show a model. Staff noted the city will assume long-term conservation responsibilities for the piece and estimated near-term survey and foundation-design costs: the landscape-feasibility study cost $3,000 and staff estimated another ~$3,000 for foundation design.
The approval is subject to final engineering, a siting sign-off by the visitor center director and written confirmation from fundraising partners on which construction costs they will cover. The commission also asked staff to correct one plaque word requested by the heritage reviewer (change from “nailed” to “attached”) before installation.
