Town unveils Code Red emergency messaging system; launch Feb. 22 with ARPA and Adirondack Foundation support

The board heard a non-agenda presentation about a townwide emergency notification system called Code Red. Joe Connolly (introduced by the chair) said the town purchased the service last year and will begin outreach and sign-ups with a mailing paid for with American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds and a grant from the Adirondack Foundation Community Fund.
"It's called Code Red, which the town bought last year," Connolly said, describing categories for messages and special options for “those who are most vulnerable, people with mobility issues, people with...oxygen,” and saying the town, fire departments and EMS will be able to use the system in major incidents. He said the town's planned start date for sign-ups and the outreach mailing is Feb. 22 and that staff will hand the system off to the emergency planning committee after launch.
Town officials said flyers and a mailing will be distributed in the next one to two weeks and that the town website will host sign-up options once ready. Officials asked residents not to sign up before the stated launch date so that outreach can be coordinated.
Next steps: outreach mailings and flyer distribution are planned ahead of the system's Feb. 22 launch; the emergency-planning committee will take over ongoing operations after initial rollout.
