Recreation manager previews senior programs, pool repairs and lifeguard recruiting

Austin George, recreation manager, briefed the commission on Jan. 27 about senior‑center programming, facility work and staffing plans for 2026. He said the senior center will host health screenings, diabetes education and fall‑prevention classes; staff are planning trips and summer events such as an Ice Cream Social. George reported that recent classes included four participants in a CPR class, 10 in a babysitting class and eight in a cooking class.
On facilities, George said staff completed deep cleaning and preventative maintenance at the pool over the winter, replaced underwater valves and lights, cleared drains and serviced the acid room ventilation. He added that new recreation supervisor Natalie Staley will begin recruiting lifeguards and swim instructors and that weekly volleyball programs have been drawing "about 15 people or so" on Wednesdays.
