Council adopts updates to smoke detector and landlord-registration ordinances

On Sept. 24 the Nutter Fort Town Council approved Ordinance 2024-10 (repeal of Article 1511 relating to smoke detectors) and Ordinance 2024-11 (amending landlord registration provisions) on their second readings; both motions passed unanimously, described as updates to bring ordinances in line with current standards and to add clarity.
The council approved Ordinance 2024-10, repealing Article 1511 of the codified ordinances relating to smoke detectors, on its second reading. The minutes state the change was necessary "to bring the codified ordinances to present day standards." Rick Lafferty moved in support on the first reading and Karen Phillips seconded; the second reading passed by unanimous vote.
Council also approved Ordinance 2024-11 amending Articles 777.09 and 777.11 related to landlord registration; the minutes say the updates were intended "for the purposes of adding clarity." Karen Phillips moved the first-reading support for the landlord-registration amendment and Rick Lafferty seconded; the second reading passed unanimously.
