Nutter Fort approves DHS grant application for six license-plate readers; police report new body cameras and tasers

The Town of Nutter Fort voted unanimously to authorize filing an application to the Department of Homeland Security for the 2024 Homeland Security Grant Supplemental Solicitation Program to purchase license-plate reader cameras and software. The resolution (2024-03) was moved by Recorder Natalie Haddix and seconded by Councilor Rick Lafferty and passed unanimously.
Police Chief Ron Godwin told council that the license-plate readers would help with heavy traffic on Route 20 and that the grant quote covered the full cost with no local match. Minutes record that "This will be for a total of 6 cameras with a 10-year license." Chief Godwin also reported that the department executed two contracts for a total of six body cameras with software and three tasers, with an option to purchase three additional cameras.
