Committee members said accessibility is a nonnegotiable design goal for the proposed playground. The Chair specified a desire for a 0–99 play area with accessible surfacing and features that accommodate wheelchair users and children with autism.
"We want the surface to be accessible to all, and we definitely wanna have a couple of things in there for wheelchair accessibility," the Chair said, emphasizing inclusion as a core requirement for the design. Members said these accessibility goals should be captured during requirements gathering and public engagement so the design and bid documents reflect those standards.
The consultant noted that public engagement and clear requirement‑setting are standard practice and will inform the design and vendor specifications. Accessibility expectations will shape the cost estimate and the sequencing of improvements across the two parks.
