Board approves $117,196 contract to modernize two parking-garage elevators

The Board of Business Contracts approved a $117,196 low-bid contract with Icon Structures to modernize two elevators in the county parking garage at 603 North Main. Project-services staff said the elevators are 39 years old and in "desperate need of repairs," and described equipment replacement, a new sump pump, lighting upgrades and concrete threshold repairs to meet ADA requirements.

Sandy Angelo, project services, explained the work will be completed in two phases so one elevator can remain in service while the other is updated. The project scope calls for new machine-room equipment installed adjacent to the elevator shafts, updated cab interiors and finishes, and pit and shaft repairs.

A board member moved to accept the low bid from Icon Structures; the motion was seconded and passed on a recorded roll call with aye votes recorded. The board did not provide a construction schedule or contract number during the meeting.

Staff noted Icon Structures was already working on another courthouse elevator rehab project for the county, which staff cited as a reason for confidence in the vendor.
