The Le Roy Central School District Board received a presentation of a proposed $32,832,318 budget for the 2026–27 school year, representing a 2.49% increase in expenditures and a 1.81% increase in the tax levy. Superintendent Merritt Holly said the district is “working from the state aid runs that were provided by the Governor’s office in January.”
Holly told the board that health insurance costs will rise sharply: the district’s participation in the Genesee Area Healthcare Plan will see a 30% increase in medical and prescription premiums, “resulting in an increase of approximately $570,000 to the Le Roy budget.” The presentation also noted a projected staffing change that reduces one full‑time administrative position and seven teaching positions; the administration said those changes will not result in the loss of employment for current teachers or teaching assistants but may require larger class sizes or staff redistribution.
The budget timeline includes a public hearing on Tuesday, May 12 at 6:00 p.m. in Memorial Auditorium and a budget vote and election on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Wolcott Street School Library/Media Center. Mr. Holly emphasized that the tax rate and final levy will not be finalized until August, when assessed values are set and the district calculates the rate.
