Dr. Antonio Abitabile updated the board on transportation arrangements, routing-software integration and regionalization planning during his superintendent’s report.
"We met with the Bretons to discuss their generosity of providing transportation to any student who needs to be sent home sick from Turnpike or Rensselaer Park Elementary School if their parent cannot come to school to get them," Dr. Abitabile said. He described a plan to use a Mid-Day Run (approximately 11:00 a.m.) provided by First Student to transport ill students home when they meet pick-up requirements; if a student becomes ill after 11 a.m., parents must provide transport or the student remains in the health office until the end of the day and rides the scheduled bus home. The superintendent noted that logistics with community providers (Star and Strand) are being finalized.
Dr. Abitabile also reported that integration between routing software and SchoolTools is performing better, that two additional routes were opened for Rensselaer Park and that a staff member is now present in the Transportation Office during the full day. He flagged a scheduled November workshop and summarized NYSED’s regionalization initiative and the district’s responsive data submission.
