One applicant emphasized having multiple children in district schools and leadership experience including military service, volunteer firefighting and youth coaching; he said extracurriculars such as sports and clubs help drive attendance. Another applicant said they work across multiple rural counties with underserved populations and described experience balancing transportation grants and community outreach. A third applicant described multi-year service on the budget committee and said they have experience planning and fiscal oversight.
"I have three kids... three in the school right now," one candidate said when asked why they wanted to serve, adding that local engagement and leadership motivate their application. Board members said they will compile scores after interviews and bring a recommendation to the regular session later that evening.
