Board members said the recent vote on wellness policy 4‑58 prompted more community response than expected and asked for more time and input before it takes effect. "I would like to just suspend the implementation of this policy 4 58 pending the outcome of whatever discussion takes place in our wellness committee and then our policy committee," the Chair said, and members voted to suspend the policy pending further review.
Several board members and staff described concerns about committee formation and outreach. A board member noted the policy's approval drew responses after a news item; another said more parents and staff wanted a chance to weigh in. The district's school nurse, Jenny Penn, was identified as having organized the wellness committee; the board was told there were 17 individuals on the committee including parents, administrators and health staff. The board directed the policy committee to reconvene with the wellness committee and report back before implementation is resumed.
