Commissioner asks to add US‑331/33120 intersection to state and federal priority lists

Commissioner Curry told the board he had met with the county’s federal lobbyist and said that, because of increasing local development and traffic — including new apartments and an anticipated Walmart — the left‑turn lane on northbound US‑331 at 33120 is causing backups and safety concerns. He moved to place the intersection improvement on both the county’s state and federal needs lists as a top priority for lobbying.
The motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. Commissioners discussed using the county’s lobbyists to pursue funds and noted the need to coordinate requests given the state-maintained nature of the roadway.
Public comment later in the meeting also urged placing an undergrounding utilities project on legislative priority lists; a Scenic Walton representative suggested the county’s lobbyists look for funding sources for that initiative as well.
