Ellie Martinez, an 8th grader and Dexter FFA member, told the board she qualified for the National FFA Spanish Creed competition in Indianapolis and requested permission for herself and the FFA advisor to travel Oct. 19–23. She said the national contest expenses will be paid by Dexter FFA. "I have qualified to compete at National FFA commission for the Spanish creed in Indianapolis," Martinez said.
Board members congratulated Martinez and approved the travel request unanimously, asking that she share results with the board if she places at the contest. Administrators noted the contest is new and that a successful national performance could affect eligibility in subsequent years.
