Tom Green County projects $701,000 operating surplus in proposed FY2027 budget

Presenter (the staff member leading the workshop) outlined the Tom Green County proposed fiscal year 2027 budget and said, after contract adjustments, the county projects a net operating surplus of $701,000 and capital expenditures of $16,703,000. The presenter described the line‑item process — reviewing office supplies, fuel, training and other consumables — and said some items were left unchanged while others were increased by roughly 10 percent or adjusted based on department requests. Staff also moved certain smaller line items into dedicated funds when appropriate and retained architecture and engineering funds for larger capital projects expected to be initiated in future fiscal years. Departments were instructed to review updates in Munis and the judge’s column, which the presenter said contains the most recent changes.
