Nick Smith, introduced as the project's expert, briefed the board on the district's capital projects and construction schedule, reporting progress on the track and turf installation and multiple building renovations.
"The turf is going down as, as we just started earlier this week," Nick Smith said. He told trustees the track is completely paved and "needs to sit and cure for 21 days before they can put the rubber coating on it," which pushes final track completion into mid-September if the schedule holds. Smith added the turf portion of the project is expected to be usable for varsity football even as finishing work on the track continues.
Smith also reviewed the daycare renovation (sheetrock and plumbing installed; exterior fence and playground grading in place), roofing and masonry work, and auditorium flooring (vinyl tile installation underway). He noted some materials (smoke/coil stations and a custom vinyl emblem) have longer lead times that could shift minor finishing tasks into breaks if needed. Overall, he said most projects are on schedule and that small outstanding items should not delay school operations.
The board asked about lifespan and maintenance; Smith said the previous turf lasted longer than expected and the new installation should provide many years of service if maintained properly.
