North Marion reports summer-school grant, expanded kindergarten jump start and inclusive programming

Dez updated the board on the district's summer-school program funded by a new three-year grant and reported participation and program details.
"We got a little over $400,000 every year for the next 3 years to run summer school," Dez told trustees. The district ran four programs this season — primary, intermediate, middle and an expanded kindergarten jump-start (extended to meet funding requirements) — and reported current site enrollments of 62 at primary, 78 at intermediate, 60 at middle, and about 80 kindergarten participants. Staff said the district purposely integrated migrant students into the general summer programming rather than running a separate migrant program and used some grant funds to add staff who could support those students.
Dez said the district will use spring-to-fall STAR screening and other measures to track outcomes and will report regular data updates across the school year. Staff also described partnerships (for example with the Woodburn Public Library) and field-trip opportunities used in the program.
