Lander County board requires itemized district-court budgets or reversion to prior year

At the budget-workshop continuation, Commissioner Alicia (speaker 6) pressed for a full, itemized budget from the district court covering Lander, Pershing and Mineral counties and requested a breakdown of employees and departmental assignments. Alicia moved that if the district court does not deliver the requested detailed budgets the board should revert the court's allocation to last year or return the matter for a vote; the motion passed on a voice vote.

Alicia said she had asked for the material in advance and that what arrived was an insufficient spreadsheet. She told the commission: "I want a detailed budget, and I also want them to clarify exactly ... how many employees they have," and said she would prefer the board hold the court's budget until the requested information is provided. Legal counsel advised that the easiest procedural path is to reopen the budget item on a future agenda if modifications are needed.

The board directed staff to contact the district court to obtain the requested documents and to bring the item back if the court does not provide the detailed budget breakdown the commissioners requested. The motion constitutes a direction to staff rather than an immediate modification of adopted appropriations.
