At the start of the meeting the board chair announced the district had received a $104,000 grant from a county legislator and the county executive to help cover emergency repairs at Camp Avenue School. The chair said the check was expected the next day and thanked the county representatives for securing the funds.
During the budget discussion Ms. Donnelly said the district will seek voter approval for capital work on roofs through planned ballot propositions and described a larger project for multiple roofs that the district currently estimates at "just over $1,300,000." She said that, if voters approve appropriation and the State Education Department signs off on project specifications, the district will bid the work and hopes to schedule the roof work for summer 2026.
Ms. Donnelly also described the multi-step capital process: voter approval for expenditures, submission of specifications to the State Education Department for review, followed by bidding and contracting. The district emphasized that the capital reserve approach is intended to reduce borrowing and associated debt-service costs.
