District seeks $1.3M from capital reserve to replace Camp Avenue roof
Summary
Officials told the budget advisory committee they plan to request a $1,300,000 withdrawal from a 2019 capital reserve to replace the Camp Avenue School roof and said the district prefers saving in a reserve to avoid additional debt service.

District staff presented Proposition 3 on the ballot, which would authorize withdrawing $1,300,000 from the capital reserve created in 2019 to fund a roof replacement at Camp Avenue School.
The presenter said the district’s roofs are approaching the end of their useful life and the requested withdrawal is intended to be proactive so replacements occur under warranty. “We're requesting, dollars 1,300,000 withdrawal from the reserve to replace the roof at Camp Avenue School,” the presenter said.
Staff said the capital-reserve approach allows the district to save over time and avoid the extra costs associated with a separate bond or debt issuance, such as additional debt service and election expenses.
If voters approve Proposition 3, the district would move forward with roof-replacement procurement and project scheduling under the capital-reserve authorization.
