Presenter details literacy, science and social-studies pilots; K–6 Spanish planned

The district’s curriculum presenter reviewed literacy expansions (Foundations, Hegarty, Benchmark Phonics), summer curriculum writing in science with Dr. Emily Kang, math supports (Savas and IXL), social-studies pilots and a plan to introduce Spanish to all K–6 students in 2025–26.
At the meeting’s curriculum segment, the district’s presenter described literacy, science, math and social-studies work across K–6 and previewed a plan to add K–6 Spanish instruction in 2025–26.
On literacy, the presenter said the district continued its Foundations program for K–2 and added Level 3 Foundations for grade 3; it continued Hegarty Phonemic Awareness and added Benchmark Phonics in K–2 and Steps to Advance for grades 2–6. The presenter also described new writing-unit work developed by sixth-grade teachers with consultant Trish Stasi.
For science, staff reported curriculum-writing work for grades 3–5 with consultant Dr. Emily Kang to align lessons to Next Generation Science Standards and to embed resources such as National Geographic, Generation Genius and Mystery Science; Dr. Kang provided professional development on shifts in instruction and assessment.
Math supports include the Savas program and digital tools such as IXL; the district also runs a state-funded 1st in Math program to bolster fluency and problem-solving skills. On social studies, the district is piloting three programs for possible adoption next year.
The presenter concluded with an announcement of new initiatives for 2025–26: adding another school psychologist and introducing Spanish classes for all students by rotating library and Spanish each semester so students receive both during the year.
