The USD 237 Board of Education voted 7-0 on Aug. 12, 2024 to raise classified staff wages and add health insurance contributions for specified positions. Libby McDonald moved to approve the package; Steve Overmiller seconded and the motion passed uniformly.
Under the approved changes, district paraprofessionals and maintenance/custodial staff receive a $1.25-per-hour increase and will be offered health insurance with classified employees paying $110.00 toward the premium. Starting wages were set at $12.50 per hour for paraprofessionals and secretaries, $13.50 per hour for maintenance/custodial staff, and $12.50 per hour for returning cooks (with a $1.00 increase after one year). Department heads, the board clerk and the treasurer receive a 3% increase and the district will pay $899.96 toward their health insurance; the transportation director receives a 6% increase with the district contributing $899.96 toward insurance. Bus drivers receive $1.25 more per route and activity route pay is increased by $1.25 per hour.
