Le Roy trustees adopt new Comprehensive Plan, send negative SEQR declaration to DEC

The Village of Le Roy Board of Trustees voted unanimously on Jan. 21 to adopt a new Comprehensive Plan and to send a negative State Environmental Quality Review (SEQR) declaration to the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation for filing.

Mayor Gregory Rogers, who introduced the plan and thanked the steering committee that worked with the Genesee/Finger Lakes Regional Planning Council, called the result "an outstanding product that has had a lot of effort put into it." Trustee William Kettle made the motion to adopt; the motion carried with all trustees voting aye.

Residents and steering-committee members emphasized recreation and creek protection during the public hearing. Resident Jeffry VanBuren asked whether the village would repair boards on the Munson Street pier and provide a porta-potty for summer visitors, saying the creek brings out-of-town visitors. Trustee Kettle and members of the steering committee indicated those ideas could be incorporated under the plan's community-driven recommendations.

Rich Sutherland advised the board that the SEQR declaration is scheduled for approval in February and that the Comprehensive Plan adoption will be formally completed in March, after which the DEC filing will be complete. The board also recorded that a negative SEQR declaration indicates officials anticipate no significant adverse environmental impacts from adopting the plan.
