Board hears presentation and advances interlocal SRO agreement adding two officers

The Lincoln Public Schools Board of Education reviewed an interlocal cooperation agreement with the City of Lincoln that maintains existing School Resource Officer coverage and adds two officers to create a stand‑alone SRO team.

"Our school resource officer program in this agreement maintains our levels of service," said Mike, a district presenter, describing the arrangement that currently places SROs in each high school and six resource officers who share time across middle schools. He said the two added officers are intended to improve backfill and scheduling flexibility and that the city already sent those officers to the district's training sessions.

Board member Barb asked whether the added officers remain subject to the prior stipulation that SROs put a majority of their time in district schools; administration said they do and that the officers will have the same expectations and training as existing SROs. The presenter said the two new officers will be split regionally (east/west) and will each cover 0.5 of the city to provide floating support.

The presentation included a note that annual program data is reported in November to the SSKI board and an abbreviated summary is presented to the full board; administration said several years of data and recommendations informed the recommended change. The board took no separate emergency action and the item was slated to return for final action at the next scheduled meeting.
