Superintendent: state summer-school grant will expand literacy supports

Superintendent Susan told the board the district received a state grant to expand literacy-focused summer school with an 80-hour instruction requirement for eligible K–3 students and additional credit recovery and 9th-grade bridge programming planned for July and August.
Superintendent Susan reported that Seaside School District 10 has received a state grant to support expanded summer-school programming focused on literacy for early grades.
"This summer school round, it must focus on literacy," Susan said, and described plans to serve K–3 students who are not yet reading at grade level, offer jump-start kindergarten supports, provide credit recovery opportunities and a ninth-grade bridge program. She noted the grant came late in the year, which challenged planning, and thanked staff and administrators for incorporating the program into existing summer offerings. The district will provide approximately 80 hours of instruction required under grant rules.
The superintendent said the district will reach out to families with details and that more information from the equity audit will be shared at the June meeting.
