The Seaside SD 10 board approved a recommended set of health instructional materials aligned to Oregon’s 2023 health standards. Staff recommended keeping the elementary program (a monthly magazine titled the Great Body Shop), selecting Goodhart and Wilcox for middle school and Human Kinetics’ Live Well comprehensive health for high school, all purchased as a mix of digital licenses and hardback materials.
“The total, cost of the health adoption would be $122,279.27,” said the staff presenter while noting the board policy process that required materials to be on display before adoption. Board members asked specifically about the reproductive-health content that Oregon’s updated standards include and staff replied that the district had placed materials on display and sent notices to parents so they could review the items before adoption. The board voted to approve the health curriculum adoption as presented.
The adoption replaces materials on a seven-year cycle and the presenter noted that although the publisher and title may be the same at some levels, the district would be purchasing brand-new materials across those sites.
