Superintendent highlights Finance Park, robotics and summer projects as budget work begins

Superintendent Penrod told the Seaside SD 10 board about several student-focused events and instructional activities that district staff will continue to support. “I had the pleasure of joining the 8th graders at Finance Park, earlier this month,” Penrod said, noting the program simulates adult financial decisions for middle-school students and is modeled on Junior Achievement’s BizTown-like activities.
Penrod also reported that the district robotics team earned a trophy at its first competition and that upcoming career-fair participation and dual-enrollment talks with Clatsop Community College may expand opportunities for students to earn 46–48 credits locally. Looking ahead to facilities work, Penrod said summer construction plans include adding six to eight parking spaces at Pacific Ridge and enclosing library/flex spaces to create additional classrooms. “We’ll be continuing that each year,” he said of the Finance Park participation, and noted that budget season and the first budget committee meeting are scheduled for April 15 as staff finalize funding priorities.
The superintendent framed many items as part of routine school-year wrap-up and preparation for next year: summer-school planning is proceeding without additional state funds but the district will run programs listed in the packet, and state grant applications through an integrated guidance application are being finalized for submission.
