Board OKs cooperative athletic agreements with Bishop Carroll; resident warns on playing time

The Central Cambria School District Board of Directors approved cooperative sports agreements with Bishop Carroll Catholic High School covering boys and girls wrestling and swimming for the 2025-26 and 2026-27 school years and football for the 2026-27 and 2027-28 school years.
Mr. Chuck Gironda, chair of the Athletic & Extracurricular Committee, moved for approval and the motion carried after a second. The board “authorized the Athletic Director and High School Principal to complete all necessary documentation with District 6 and the PIAA,” according to the agenda motion. Administrators explained the agreements were prompted by a recent court order and PIAA policy that allow parochial-school students to play for a home district when their school does not offer the sport.
During the public comment period Jackson Township resident Mrs. Deb Yesenosky said parents who pay district taxes should expect district students to be prioritized for playing time, and warned the agreements could disadvantage Central Cambria athletes. “Mrs. Yesenosky voiced concern that Central Cambria students, whose parents pay school district taxes, may not be prioritized for playing time or participation opportunities if the cooperative sports agreements with Bishop Carroll are approved,” the minutes record.
The board recorded the motion as carried with all members present voting in favor at the committee meeting; the district authorized staff to finalize paperwork required by District 6 and the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA). No procedural amendments to the agreements were recorded during the meeting, and no formal mitigation steps for playing-time concerns were identified on the record.
