At the Aug. 10 meeting Rainier Junior Senior High School representative Mr. Macaulay reported on summer programming and staffing plans for the coming year.
Macaulay said the high‑school summer program had 25 participants and recovered multiple credits across English and math. "We had 25 kids participating in the high school level, and we had over 25.75 high school credits recovered," he told the board, and credited small class sizes and grant support for that outcome.
The report also noted enrollment movements (about 417 districtwide with 62 incoming 6th graders joining the junior/senior high) and staffing: the board was informed that Mr. Major Bailey accepted the position of band and choir director. Macaulay described a new alternating 'green/black' bell schedule intended to preserve elective access while allowing targeted intervention and credit recovery during the school day.
The board discussed transition supports for incoming middle‑grade cohorts and the revival of a Columbians link‑crew program for orientation.
