Staff schedules public hearing Aug. 24 for Chickasaw County budget amendment

The Chickasaw County board voted to publish a notice for a public hearing on Budget Amendment No. 1 for fiscal year 2627, scheduling the hearing for Aug. 24 at 09:10 in the boardroom. Isaac moved to approve publication and Travis seconded; the roll call vote was Aye from Isaac, Travis, Scott and Jake and the motion carried 4-0 with Steve absent.

County staff presented the amendment’s line-item changes. "We have, starting at the top, we have the health insurance that's gonna increase 19,600," said the staff member presenting the amendment (S2). The package also includes three noncash public-health adjustments approved by the board of health, a $1,000 donation-fund allocation, $30,000 from county betterment for a New Hampton–Waterloo project, $72,000 for secondary-roads patching projects from the infrastructure account, $11,000 from the secondary roads fund for supplies and installation, and a $10,000 sheriff grant intended to increase police supplies. Staff also proposed transferring DARE-fund dollars into the K-9 fund; the board discussed the K-9 fund balance ($1,002.33) and asked staff to add $5 to cover rounding and interest uncertainty.

The staff member asked the board to review the amendment packet and return any corrections before publication; the chair said staff will circulate the final notice Thursday and Friday and the public hearing will be held Aug. 24. The amendment packet and supporting schedules will be available with the hearing notice.
