Seward County authorizes up to $5,000 from Inheritance Fund to remove illegally dumped tires pending reimbursement

Highway Superintendent Jon Regnier told the board that tires were illegally dumped in a ditch around July 27 and the Road Department lacked budgeted funds to remove them. The board moved, on a motion by Darrell Zabrocki seconded by Jonathan Curtis, to authorize cleanup using the Inheritance Fund contingent on pursuing reimbursement from Seward/Saline Solid Waste Management; funds would be returned to the Inheritance Fund if reimbursement is received. The motion capped the expenditure at $5,000 and passed with an affirmative vote of all commissioners.

Chair Misty Ahmic said she would propose seeking reimbursement at the next Solid Waste Board meeting. The board recorded the authority extension as a temporary funding measure to address an unbudgeted public-works expense.
