Principal John Swick reported the Special Education Department’s recent activities and a range of student recognitions to the Town of Webb Board on April 21, 2026. He highlighted schoolwide events and student successes, including: “B.King, 4th-grade student, won our Spelling Bee this year! He represented our school at the Regional Competition in the Jeff-Lewis BOCES Region on 3/12 at 6 pm!”
Swick also described program- and classroom-level initiatives: a new 5th–6th grade book club led by librarian Madison Wittwer, K–5 science lessons delivered by SUNY Cortland students on Feb. 11, and SUNY Poly STEM activities for grades 6–8 on March 2. Athletic teams received recognition as scholar-athlete teams, and multiple students were selected to compete at NYSSRA championships for Alpine and Nordic events. Swick noted students from BOCES career programs were highlighted as Students of the Month at HGSTC.
The presentation included operational notes relevant to special education supports and student engagement, such as Heart Disease and Rare Disease Awareness work and recognition of staff and students for community and school contributions. The district plans a Career Fair on May 21 to connect students to regional employers and programs.
