Parent urges Sweet Home board to reconsider son's honors placement, cites opaque test use
Summary
Parent Eric Zorich asked the board to reopen his eighth‑grader Emmitt's high‑school honors placement after learning the district used multiple testing measures (New York State tests and AIMSWeb) beyond the stated 90 overall average prerequisite, asking the board to add a seat in honors classes.

At the June 16 meeting, parent Eric Zorich addressed the board about his son Emmitt's placement into the high school honors program. Zorich said a commitment letter listed a minimum prerequisite of a 90 overall average through Q1–Q3 and that his son meets and exceeds that standard in core subjects, yet a later letter informed them Emmitt was not selected. Zorich described being told by the high school principal that New York State testing and AIMSWeb testing were used as additional measures and that parents had not been informed these tests would affect placement.
Zorich asked the board to reconsider and specifically requested "one extra chair to be put in Global Honors and Honors English for my son, Emmitt," arguing that "He earned it. He did earn it." He also raised fairness concerns for students whose parents had opted them out of standardized tests. The board received the comment during the public comment portion of the meeting; the minutes record Zorich's concerns but do not record a board decision on reconsideration at that time.
