Board spotlights athletes, teachers and local projects; Willow Ridge sports court moves toward funding

During the May 12 meeting the Sweet Home Central School District Board of Education and Superintendent Michael V. Ginestre recognized exceptional athletes and award-winning teachers. The superintendent gave routine end-of-year updates about senior activities, shadowing and leadership days.
Board members shared community updates: Scott M. Johnson reported on a legislative breakfast and noted that New York legislators had passed an 11th budget extender that covers funding through the coming Thursday; Brian Laible reported the Willow Ridge sports-court project received assembly approval and that funding is now with the Dormitory Authority, with the district estimating the project cost at about $85,000 and a funding-review timeline of 30 to 90 days followed by an expected six months to a year to receive funds and build. In related remarks Mr. Feldmann (district staff) said, “It's been a process, and it's been learning as we've gone through because we've never done something like this before.”
Board President Peter Bellanti and other members encouraged community attendance at leadership days and school events as the year ends.
