Bangor School District to adopt ParentSquare as districtwide communications platform

At its Aug. 12 meeting, the Bangor School District Board of Education heard a presentation from district administrators proposing ParentSquare as the district’s approved communications platform for K–12 classes, activities and clubs. Administrators said ParentSquare, which now includes Remind functionality, will replace the district’s current Apogee services and provide an archived, district-accessible record of school-to-family communications.

"ParentSquare then is taking over all of the functionality of that app, and it seems to be making a pretty good transition with it," said Dr. Brackham, the district administrator presenting the item. Staff said the platform meets the communication-list requirements under Act 89, will be pushed to student iPads, and will be introduced to teachers and coaches during upcoming professional-development sessions. Parents can set preferences to receive messages by app notification, email or text. District staff said they expect to have most users signed on by Sept. 1 and will provide support and training for non-teacher staff and families.

The board discussed logistics including how coaches and non-teacher advisors will receive the same messaging and whether the district should run training sessions for families. Administration said coaches will be included in PD days and the district will offer how-to videos and in-person setup help when needed. There was no separate recorded vote on the platform in the minutes; administrators described implementation steps and the board moved on to other agenda items.
