District requests multiple new FTEs — fine arts, interventionists, maintenance and compliance roles

Trustees heard a series of new full-time-equivalent requests intended to address instructional and operational needs. The list includes adding drama, art and music teachers so schools no longer split those roles; a 4th-grade teacher targeted for an underperforming elementary school; an academic interventionist to replace former CSI-funded staff; and a discipline secretary at Gaffney High to free administrators for classroom observations.
Mr. Pettit and other administrators justified the maintenance foreman as necessary to manage upcoming capital projects triggered by an energy audit from Schneider Electric, and argued the role would be more cost-effective than hiring an external project manager. Staff also proposed a compliance coordinator in student services to handle changing special-education eligibility requirements; Miss Westmoreland said the district can recruit for that niche role.
No FTEs were approved at the workshop; trustees asked for clarifying information about school-by-school allocations and per-athlete cost breakdowns where applicable before the first reading.
